A romantic adventure series: suitable for adults

A trilogy of books about survival, relationships and love. An individual cannot predict a perfect life without destiny altering challenges at some point. When those changes are powerful enough, a period of adjustment follows, where a new identity is sought to give direction and purpose. Couple these changes with a love interest so powerful that, while feeling it, they cannot impart it and the new purpose becomes weakened.
